Team Gloves for Football Season

Sometimes you get a little tired of making the same old things, you know?

But sometimes, you like the same old thing, and really all you want is a bit of a change.

I've started making fingerless gloves in team colors. The stripes make it more interesting for me, and I think, more interesting for others as well.  Here are a few that I've tried:

gloves and more gloves--and what I'll do for a half-decent photo or two

I've been in fingerless glove mode lately.

A bit ago, I received an order for several pairs of gloves in different colors, with the caveat that each of the cable decorations be slightly different. It took me a few days (or more), but I was able to get them finished, and I really enjoyed playing around with the different cables.



Then I figured (as I often do) that as long as my fingers were in "glove making mode", I might as well whip out some other ones in different colors and different patterns. So I did. I moved a bunch of yarn from my stash tote to my work basket, and just got to work putting the colors together. About a week ago, I found that I had worked through all the yarn in my basket, so I took my eight pairs of gloves out to my front yard, and proceeded to photograph them for the Etsy shop.



I was quite a sight, lying face down on the grass, contorting my hands in front of me and through the legs of the tripod, hoping to get the perfect shot of these gloves. Several of my neighbors made their way our of or into their homes while I was thus engaged, and I shudder to think what they think of me now. (However, truth be told, I know them all, and they already know that I'm slightly eccentric but have a good heart, so I think they probably just chalked it up to business as usual with the crazy neighbor lady.)









Some of the shots came out a little bit overexposed unfortunately, so the next day I betook myself to the privacy of my backyard and the backdrop of my handmade Cedar wood bench to shoot a few more pics.









I'm not sure which set I like more, but it's been a fun adventure putting it all together. Next up on my "to do" list is a baby blanket that I'm making for a soon-to-be-born nephew. I'm hoping to pull together something along the lines of this:

More Gloves and More Colors

I spent much of the Christmas Break crocheting fingerless gloves, and because of that, I was able to catch up enough on my current stock so that I could do a few new pairs in new colors and new textures:

Navy Blue

Charcoal Grey

Forest Green

Bulky Chocolate Brown--Wool

Blue

I've found that for now at least, I do really well in crocheting if I alternate projects.  Right now, I'm alternating between building up my fingerless glove stock (in preparation for fall and winter), and making up more of the halter dresses that I've been working on, though whether those dresses will be for sale in the etsy shop or for gifting, I haven't decided for sure yet.

I've also found that as I alternate, it's always fun to change things up a little bit and try new color combos, etc.

So, a bit ago I ventured out from my usual creme/gray/black color scheme for fingerless gloves, and made some in a cornflower blue.





I'm fairly pleased with how they've turned out.

More Gloves

Every once in awhile, I feel like branching out, and making something in a little different color combination than is my usual.



So, I do.

I'm in fingerless gloves mode right now.  We had big plans for family and fun during our Christmas break--big plans that where thwarted when my husband and I contracted the flu of death and spent the entire break coughing and sniffing and aching.  If there is a bright side to all of this (which I guess there is, but I honestly had to look pretty hard to find it) it's that I was able to get a whole lot of crocheting done, and now I have a whole rainbow of gloves stocked in the etsy shop.


So, that's been kind of fun.  I'll be honest though, I'm starting to tire of fingerless gloves, and I'm itching to try something different.  In the running are 1)A new blanket for my daughter (she's still using her baby blankets, and she's four now), 2)Baby jackets to be kept on hand for shower gifts, and 3)Crocheted bow-ties, 'cuz really, shouldn't boys be able to have something cute as well?

Who knows what will win out?

Gloves, Avatars and Cocoons

So, remember how on my WIP list, I've determined that I need to go through this tote that I have and organize it?  In my mind I call it "the tote of forgotten projects".  Well, I finally went through it a week or so ago, and found a half-finished pair of creme fingerless gloves there, just waiting to be completed.

So, since I don't really like to just make one of anything, once I'd finished that pair, I made four more just like it.  Then I moved on, and made more black gloves.  Then I decided to make some brown gloves.  Next I think I'm going to venture into a rainbow pair, probably along the lines of the slippers here.   Then I'll probably be tired of fingerless gloves, and it will be time to go back to the tote and see what other mysterious forgotten unfinished beauties are lying there.

Oh, and when I was taking pictures of the brown gloves to list in the etsy shop, I went ahead and snapped a few like these, for a new avatar for the shop.  I was getting tired of the previous shot of me with the sun hat.  I know that I don't have to have my mug in the avatar, but I like being able to see the faces of the other etsy shop owners, so I guess it only makes sense that I like to have a representation of myself as well as my work in my own.  

In other news, a photograpic genius neighbor and friend of mine recently asked me to make her a baby cocoon for a photo shoot she had coming up.  Having never made one before, and wanting something new, I was happy to comply.  I used this pattern from illbeyarned, and about half-a skein of Lion Homespun.  It worked up quickly and turned out quite nicely I think.  There are better pictures on Aubrey's photo blog here.

(I'd post the pictures here, but I'm not sure whether or not the baby's mother is okay with pictures of her son being used on the blog of someone she doesn't even know, and heaven knows I don't want to do anything that would make a new mother uncomfortable.  So, until I'm able to find that out, you'll just have to either take my word for how cute it is, or you'll have to take the time to make one extra click over to AHPhotography to see for yourself.)

And that's what's up with me on the crocheting front.  On the life front I've been putting together birthday parties for my little girl (one family party followed by her first ever friend party), and doing some pretty time-intensive work with my church, and trying to squeeze out as much happiness as I can out of these end of summer/beginning of fall days.  Life is good.
