Newsboy Cap Pattern

This is my go-to newsboy cap pattern.  Giving credit where it is (absolutely) due, I based it on this City Girl Cap pattern by Celeste Young.  I found that for me, the brim on the original was a little too long, and there were a few issues with the crown that I didn't love, so I made a few adjustments to make it more for my liking.  Here it is:

Newsboy Cap
(Based on a Design by Celeste Young of warmweatherknitting.blogspot.com)

Row 1: Ch 31, turn. Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across (30 sc).

Row 2: Ch 2, turn (counts as first hdc in this row only). Skipping first sc, hdc in each sc across and in beg ch 1 (30 hdc).

Row 3: Ch 2, turn. Skipping first hdc, sc decrease over next two hdc. Hdc in next 25 hdc, sc decrease over next st and second ch of beg ch 2.

Row 4: Ch 2, turn. Skipping first hdc, sc decrease over next two hdc. Hdc in next 23 hdc, sc decrease over next st and second ch of beg ch 2.

  2. Easy to follow pattern . Very cute. But you didn't say what kind of yarn you used. I just made the hat using worsted weight....it may fit a doll! I'm going to try making some minor adjustments and see if I can get worsted weight to work!

  3. Sorry DPKing! I used 100% cotton yarn, worsted weight. BUT, I have a very loose crochet gauge, so that might be why mine ended up so much bigger than yours. Good luck adjusting it for your own needs!

  4. I revisited this pattern and noticed that you used a G hook but the original uses a J hook.this could account for the size difference. I also added one more row of increases to get the size I need.
