But, a friend of mine asked me to make her a Troll hat for her infant. Since I was up for a challenge, I headed over to KnottybyNeedles and bought the pattern listed <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/536730931/pattern-only-poppy-troll-hat?ref=related-7" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
Then, through some trial and error, I worked it up!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-PGbrDwT/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-PGbrDwT/0/c35725f1/M/i-PGbrDwT-M.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
And then, since my daughter was so envious, I let her choose some colors out of my stash, and worked one up for her as well.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-tRJk3ck/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-tRJk3ck/0/06c3eb05/M/i-tRJk3ck-M.jpg" /></a><br />

<br />
What can I say? I'm just a softie.<br />
<br />

Or, if we don't all know that, we certainly should know that. <br />
<br />
However, thanks to my mother, my daughter has caught the sewing bug. Truth be told, it's kind of cool.<br />
<br />
And, long story short, we recently acquired a "loaner" of a sewing machine from my mother. It just happens to be the machine that I used to learn to sew all those marvelous years ago. Kind of fun, no?<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-9GZsdH4/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-9GZsdH4/0/2492ce30/L/i-9GZsdH4-L.jpg" /></a><br />
And, my mom was in town a few days ago, and we took the opportunity to all get a little sewing lesson from the master.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-LLDCSTN/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-LLDCSTN/0/8b59a618/L/i-LLDCSTN-L.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
What did we make, you ask?<br />
<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-q5QnrP3/A"><img alt="" height="480" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-q5QnrP3/0/5a8f7f9f/L/i-q5QnrP3-L.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
CHAPSTICK HOLDERS!! Hooray!<br />
<br />
And, so that I can remember how to do it, and don't have to keep track of this scrap of paper forever:<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-Jpb6cL7/A"><img alt="" height="478" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-Jpb6cL7/0/cf674b65/L/i-Jpb6cL7-L.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I'm writing the instructions here.<br />
<br />
Cut two 4 1/2" by 4 1/2" squares of fabric<br />
<br />
EITHER: put two squares together with right sides out and zigzag around the edges (to prevent fraying)<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-W2GFCvN/A"><img alt="" height="480" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-W2GFCvN/0/dd5e6517/L/i-W2GFCvN-L.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
OR put two squares together with wrong sides out, stitch down two opposite sides with 1/4" (or less) seam. Turn inside out and finger press seams.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-J92Rj7s/A"><img alt="" height="480" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-J92Rj7s/0/e1241353/L/i-J92Rj7s-L.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-TFzg6Zt/A"><img alt="" height="480" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-TFzg6Zt/0/dfc5fc91/L/i-TFzg6Zt-L.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Fold in half with the fabric that you want on the outside of your holder on the outside of your fold.<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-RJJLhj2/A"><img alt="" height="480" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-RJJLhj2/0/500d2742/L/i-RJJLhj2-L.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Place a pin 1 1/2" from the top,<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-kfvKJK4/A"><img alt="" height="480" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-kfvKJK4/0/492b4cc9/L/i-kfvKJK4-L.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
and stitch a 1/2" seam, backstitching at the start and at the end. (the directions on the paper above say to use a 5/8" seam, but I like 1/2" better.)<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-nqCJnv7/A"><img alt="" height="480" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-nqCJnv7/0/ac3287a0/L/i-nqCJnv7-L.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Turn inside out, making sure seam allowance is open, flat, and in the middle. Then stitch 1/4" across bottom, backstitching at beginning and end.<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-LtS934N/A"><img alt="" height="480" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-LtS934N/0/b5f7aaf8/L/i-LtS934N-L.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-JzmK55s/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-JzmK55s/0/bc74836c/M/i-JzmK55s-M.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
MAKE STRAP:<br />
Take a scrap of coordinating fabric and EITHER<br />
<br />
Fold one side in 1/4" and stitch<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-MH4tFdt/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-MH4tFdt/0/43eb45ef/M/i-MH4tFdt-M.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Fold other side in 1/4" and stitch<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-SfmsfVx/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-SfmsfVx/0/cdbee6ac/M/i-SfmsfVx-M.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Fold both ends in and stitch<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-npxGnVm/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-npxGnVm/0/8ff7b6fa/M/i-npxGnVm-M.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
OR<br />
<br />
Fold both ends in 1/4", pin, and stitch<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-CN76Ghb/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-CN76Ghb/0/093ba261/M/i-CN76Ghb-M.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-NRKcqBj/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-NRKcqBj/0/e1298028/M/i-NRKcqBj-M.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Fold strap over, decide how long you want it to be, and give yourself another 1/2" or so, and then snip it.<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-HknjdLp/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-HknjdLp/0/ed7108f2/M/i-HknjdLp-M.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Pin strap on inside of top of holder, with the loop facing down.<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-gsWkcmT/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-gsWkcmT/0/aed0367e/M/i-gsWkcmT-M.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Stitch 1/4" across top, making sure edges of seam allowance touch. Backstitch across entire top.<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-hczrrcW/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-hczrrcW/0/5b4dad29/M/i-hczrrcW-M.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Snip the top of the strap off, making the strap flush with the edge that you just stitched.<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-SzLrg7k/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-SzLrg7k/0/8ddac120/M/i-SzLrg7k-M.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Turn, pushing out corners (we like to use the top of a click pen, with the pen part not being "clicked" out.<br />
<br />
Trim up loose threads, put a key ring through the strap, and you're all done!<br />
<a href="https://charlottelaughs.smugmug.com/Family/2017L8RAugust/n-fr8rMc/i-q5QnrP3/A"><img alt="" src="https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-q5QnrP3/0/5a8f7f9f/M/i-q5QnrP3-M.jpg" /></a><br />

To be honest, I'm not sure how thrilled I am with the pattern as it now stands, but it's a start, and sometimes a start is good enough. Like now, for instance.<br />

I found a pattern that looked promising by <a href="http://hubpages.com/@lisaauch1" target="_blank">Lisa Auch</a>, and went to town.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://feltmagnet.com/textiles-sewing/free-crochet-slipper-socks-and-bootie-style-patterns-for-beginners" target="_blank">You can find the pattern I used here.</a><br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo IMG_3992.jpg" border="0" src="https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/charlottelaughs/Blog%20Stuff/j-blogstuff/IMG_3992.jpg" /><br />
<br />
I liked working these up, but I'm thinking that using the Homespun yarn made things a bit less "stretchy" than I'd like slipper socks to be. They wear well the first 2-3 times, but then there isn't all that much elasticity holding the socks up.<br />
<br />
Maybe I'll try making them again with regular yarn. Time will tell.<br />
<br />

Like, that's her thing, and we have about a million of them in our small home.<br />
<br />
One day, I decided that I needed to do something about them all, and I put together a toy hammock for them.<br />
<br />
It turned out well, looked pretty, and keeps our home a little less cluttered. Win!<br />
<br />
Here are some (typically rough) instructions that I used<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Toy Hammock Net</span></b><br />
<br />
Cotton yarn<br />
<div>
Size I hook</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Ch 6, sl at to make a loop. Ch 125, then ch 6 again, and make another sl st loop as at the beginning.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Ch 4, sk 2 ch below, dc in next ch, ch 2, sk 2 ch below, dc in next ch. continue across.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Ch 4, sk next loop, dc in next loop. Ch 2, dc in next loop. Continue across. Repeat this row to end of hammock. (Pattern automatically decreases by one in each row). </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Make another ch 6 sl st loop, finish off.</div>
<div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://photobucket.com/" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo IMG_5690.jpg" border="0" src="https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/charlottelaughs/Blog%20Stuff/i-blogstuff/IMG_5690.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Don't be fooled. This is only about 1/4 of the number of stuffed animals that reside in our home.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo IMG_5688.jpg" border="0" src="https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/charlottelaughs/Blog%20Stuff/i-blogstuff/IMG_5688.jpg" /></a></div>

One of the things that we do in our faith is that our children aren't baptized until they are eight years old. My daughter had looked forward to the day that she would be baptized for years and years, and to celebrate the day, we decided to give her her very own set of scriptures.<br />
<br />
Knowing that she would need something in which to carry them, I decided that I'd try my hand (literally-ha ha) at making her a scripture carrier.<br />
<br />
Here's what I eventually came up with:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo IMG_0609.jpg" border="0" src="https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/charlottelaughs/Blog%20Stuff/i-blogstuff/IMG_0609.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo IMG_0608.jpg" border="0" src="https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/charlottelaughs/Blog%20Stuff/i-blogstuff/IMG_0608.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
SCRIPTURE CARRIER<br />
Use size G hook and cotton yarn<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Granny Square</b>, make 14</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Chain 4 and join in a circle, then using hdc, and two-stitch "shells"' with one ch in between each one, make 4 rows, one with 4 shells, one with 8, one with 12, and one with sixteen. Finish off.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Stitch or sc squares together in panels, three panels of two squares each and two panels of four squares each.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Lining</b></div>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div>
For each panel, make a corresponding swatch of the same size, using sc rows, bordered with one round of sc. When complete, sc each lining swatch to corresponding square panel.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Assembly</b></div>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div>
Use the three 2-square panels as bottom, and side panels of bag. Use the two 4-square panels as front and back of bag. Sew all panels together in this manner. To "square up" top corners, use ribbon, rope, or chain/sl st "ropes", and run a small piece through the top of each corner, securing each with a know or a bow.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Carry Strap</b></div>
<div>
Switch to size F hook.</div>
<div>
Ch 200, being careful not to twist ch, join.</div>
<div>
Rnd 1, sc in each chain, join, ch 3</div>
<div>
Rnd 2, dc in each chain, join, ch 2</div>
<div>
Rnd 3, sc in each dc, join.</div>
<div>
Rnd 4, sl st in each sc around, join, fasten off</div>
<div>
Join yarn in any foundation chain, sl st in each ch around, join, fasten off.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Make lining (strengthener) for strap using sc in rows and borders as with panels. Sc to strap.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Secure strap to bag by placing in long skinny oval across bottom of bag, and bringing sides up to form handles. Tack in place on bottom, and at top and bottom of front and back panels. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Strengthener of bottom panel</b></div>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div>
Cut a piece of thick cardboard to the dimensions of the inside bottom panel of bag. Using sc, crochet a "cozy" around cardboard, sewing up,both ends with cardboard inside. Place in bottom of bag.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Add snaps, buttons, zippers, and other embellishments as desired.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>

Would I be able to make a granny square sweater, she asked?<br />
<br />
After thinking about it, and ensuring that her timeframe would allow for some trial and error on my part, I responded that yes, I would love to make a granny square sweater.<br />
<br />
We traded ideas back and forth until I felt like I had a pretty good feel for what she had in mind, and she even threw out the possibility of a granny square sweater and pants set, should the sweater turn out well. Within this conversation I learned that the intended recipient of the set would be her son, who would be wearing it to an ugly sweater contest around November/December of 2017.<br />
<br />
As we nailed down a vision, I sent her this inspiration picture:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAsYmUtVDREPYPJLs8L1GbtW2fnybEgXoz3tUn-C4cNHTEGdNnPgGUPM6tEdKvPkKtKA3OAaOUuOStIFPcqCjJBy7Xzaa-t9d3tS5poIc3j78SNMfCHptWY7WWNavinKIHMrQVEeP0FQpH/s1600/icm_fullxfull.111786975_3yxjznh5g4g08k4oo4gg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="313" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAsYmUtVDREPYPJLs8L1GbtW2fnybEgXoz3tUn-C4cNHTEGdNnPgGUPM6tEdKvPkKtKA3OAaOUuOStIFPcqCjJBy7Xzaa-t9d3tS5poIc3j78SNMfCHptWY7WWNavinKIHMrQVEeP0FQpH/s320/icm_fullxfull.111786975_3yxjznh5g4g08k4oo4gg.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
And we agreed that we would shoot for something along those lines.<br />
<br />
After a few weeks of crocheting, we ended up with this sweater,<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUaZjVdzXzUHAS-r_UbQGmlPm4x1jmzFDzZDU1G-xgH6eD2Aswi7IlPOiBWuWZ_IqTwUOs3uFpmoTdSmUfyV1W9DI7wz5goevk72gc44n874HG3i0GR946qzLqkqF-9U97ygDu_ZHMGpe6/s1600/IMG_7075.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUaZjVdzXzUHAS-r_UbQGmlPm4x1jmzFDzZDU1G-xgH6eD2Aswi7IlPOiBWuWZ_IqTwUOs3uFpmoTdSmUfyV1W9DI7wz5goevk72gc44n874HG3i0GR946qzLqkqF-9U97ygDu_ZHMGpe6/s400/IMG_7075.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
which my husband promptly fell in love with, and secured a promise from me that I would make him another as soon as I was able. Also interestingly, one of my neighbors, upon seeing the sweater remarked on the uncanny resemblance that it bears to on of her favorite paintings, <i>Color Study: Squares with Concentric Circles, </i>by Wassily Kandinsky.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Then it was on to the pants. By <a href="http://salutationscrochet.blogspot.com/2014/03/crochet-pants-adventure-in-quirky.html" target="_blank">roughly following my granny square pants pattern</a>, I eventually landed on this:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Assembly:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Main "Vest": Make two panels of 3 squares by 3 squares. Stitch them together at the top, leaving plenty of room (1 full square, and a third to a half of the other "stitched" square) for the neck. Stitch up the sides, leaving the top squares unstitched for sleeve holes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sleeves: Make two panes of 2 squares by 2 squares. Stitch each of the panels together along one side, forming a tube or sleeve. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Stitch sleeves to vest at the sleeve hole spot.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj73e3TSe42oYhaPgINRk2Kod9ENirvLYPPeWfAs01mPmyLjVHBlhTLiZ_4H3BGfL18HhLS1aaPXgKpTgTn833vcIrvO-sOYmvjEVNALFwelZzWT1n7Z381DknH7xKHrDz3FaZ2hWNd5147/s1600/IMG_0073.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj73e3TSe42oYhaPgINRk2Kod9ENirvLYPPeWfAs01mPmyLjVHBlhTLiZ_4H3BGfL18HhLS1aaPXgKpTgTn833vcIrvO-sOYmvjEVNALFwelZzWT1n7Z381DknH7xKHrDz3FaZ2hWNd5147/s640/IMG_0073.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If the sweater fits your dimensions at this point, you're done. Otherwise, you can add stripes along the bottom and sleeves (I like to alternate hdc and dc, with the hdcs going in to just the back loops). If you want to make a mock turtleneck, sc around the neck area, decreasing or slip stitching as you go until you have the hole as small as you want it. Then, continue with the alternate hdc and dc stripes until it is as long as you want it.</div>

<b>Color Choice</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This sweater was supposed to be a "semi Christmasy" sweater, and so I followed a color pattern as follows:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the squares, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
rounds 1-3 were done in shades of either red, green, or white ("Christmas Colors")</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
rounds 4-5 were done in another shade of either red green or white</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
round 6 was done in a non-Christmas color</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
round 7 was done in another non-Christmas color</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
round 8 was done in yet another shade of either red, green, or white</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the stripes, I tended to alternate Christmas Colors with non-Christmas Colors</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Throughout the project, I used scrap yarn, red heart acrylic super saver generally.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>And now, with this gratuitious picture of me celebrating the completion of this awesome project, I leave you.</i></div>

Some of these pictures are pretty rough, color and composition wise, but still, it gives an idea, and that's what I'm going for here.<br />

Then it was time to go "Pinterest Shopping" for inspiration as to what to do with these balls.<br />
<br />
I found this picture, and decided to use it as a springboard.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLgppeme56y63_r8FMrpXrrVvW4_JiLWlE_7CJncjwOpX-tWW6qrnryxtdu_LoK60ntNpTaTS0PaNOr2iw_-sHcnUwprknjlcgOGpV3tU6EXdVwnu64QEHMcIQOPnNUEPLXzGnGPZqPst9/s640/blogger-image--420499556.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLgppeme56y63_r8FMrpXrrVvW4_JiLWlE_7CJncjwOpX-tWW6qrnryxtdu_LoK60ntNpTaTS0PaNOr2iw_-sHcnUwprknjlcgOGpV3tU6EXdVwnu64QEHMcIQOPnNUEPLXzGnGPZqPst9/s640/blogger-image--420499556.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Here's how mine turned out:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo IMG_5529.jpg" border="0" src="https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/charlottelaughs/Blog%20Stuff/i-blogstuff/IMG_5529.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The pattern I used was pretty basic, just a chain 4, then join into a circle. Next sc 12 in the chain 4 circle, then 20sc, (3 in each corner, 2 on each side) then 28sc. Finish off. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I made a bunch of the squares, then sl stitched them together, and made a border and a handle. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo IMG_5527.jpg" border="0" src="https://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/charlottelaughs/Blog%20Stuff/i-blogstuff/IMG_5527.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Now I have a nice bag for my farmer's marketing, general shopping, or just taking things around here and there. What's not to like about that?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
I've dabbled a bit here and there with ear-warmers, but up till now, had never worked up a pattern that really felt right. But, a month or two ago, I started working with a pattern in the round, with varying stitches, and it finally felt good enough to pursue.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo IMG_4503.jpg" border="0" src="http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/charlottelaughs/Blog%20Stuff/i-blogstuff/IMG_4503.jpg" /></a><br />

I made it out of plastic grocery sacks, which I turned into plarn, <a href="http://salutationscrochet.blogspot.com/2011/03/plarn.html" target="_blank">following the directions that I posted here.</a> Once I had the plarn, I followed <a href="http://www.kaylaksthriftyways.com/box-bottom-tote/" target="_blank">this pattern </a> for a box-bottom tote at kaylaksthriftyways.com. I found the pattern easy to follow, and pretty enjoyable.<br />
<br />
To be honest, the most time consuming part of it all was making the plarn, but it's a really handy bag and I love it. Although I'm sure it would make a great grocery bag, I use it for swimming mostly, I fold it up and put it inside a large canvas bag along with our suits, sunscreen, etc. Then when we're done swimming and have changed into our street clothes, I wrap the wet suits in a towel and toss them in this bag. It means that I leave the pool with two bags (my canvas bag and my plarn bag), but it also means that I don't end up getting everything in my canvas bag all wet from the suits. It's an awesome solution to what can often be a pesky problem.<br />

<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo IMG_9607.jpg" border="0" src="http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/charlottelaughs/Blog%20Stuff/o-blogstuff/IMG_9607.jpg" /></a><br />

This was a custom order I put together awhile ago:<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo IMG_0348.jpg" border="0" src="http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/charlottelaughs/Blog%20Stuff/n-blogstuff/IMG_0348.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
And some for the Etsy Shop:<br />

Breast Cancer Awareness? Or maybe just for twin baby girls.<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt="salu1-15st photo IMG_0695_1.jpg" border="0" src="http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/charlottelaughs/Blog%20Stuff/n-blogstuff/IMG_0695_1.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
And then, just recently I tried a new pattern,<a href="https://www.etsy.com/transaction/241146859?"> this African Flower</a> from Cottage Imaginations. I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out. Hopefully I'll be able to make up a few more like this in different color combinations in the near future.<br />

Next to full-size afghans (which take forever, but are <i>so </i>rewarding), baby clothes are my favorite things to make. I love making little girl dresses, and little girl or boy sweaters, but I was getting tired of those, and so I went hunting around the web (mainly via Pinterest, 'natch) to get some inspiration.<br />
<br />
And boy, did I get inspired.<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt="newsboy photo IMG_1756.jpg" border="0" src="http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/charlottelaughs/Blog%20Stuff/m-blogstuff/IMG_1756.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
This set is fairly simple to make, works up quickly, and makes an absolutely darling outfit. I made a few, and as I did so, and using and adapting a few patterns I found here and there, I wrote down my process, mainly so that I could do it again at some point when I'm in the mood. So, as long as I did it for myself, I thought you might appreciate then instructions as well.<br />
<br />
Right?<br />
<br />
I thought so.<br />

<br />
I did some sets using the old classic color combinations . . .<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt="cloth photo IMG_2304.jpg" border="0" src="http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/charlottelaughs/Blog%20Stuff/l-blogstuff/IMG_2304.jpg" /></a><br />

<br />
and I also branched out into some neon hues.<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo IMG_3225.jpg" border="0" src="http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/charlottelaughs/Blog%20Stuff/k-blog%20stuff/IMG_3225.jpg" /></a><br />

She had purchased stockings for her family elsewhere at some time in the past, but now had a new member of the family, wanted a stocking to match, and found that her previous source for stockings had ceased operations. So, she gave me her color choices, and a picture of one of the stockings she had already purchased and asked if I could make something similar.</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 12.8px;"><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 12.8px;"><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">The stockings she needed to match were a little different in style than <a href="http://salutationscrochet.blogspot.com/2014/10/christmas-is-coming-goose-is-getting-fat.html">the ones I had made previously</a>, and so I agreed to try my hand at imitating the style of what she needed. After a bit of trial and error, I managed to get something pretty close, and since she was pleased with the result, and since I didn't want to have to "re-invent the wheel", should I want to make that kind of stocking again, </span></span><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">I've decided that I should take a minute and write down what I did. <i><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 12.8px;">Here's where it gets cryptic--In my opinion, the very best way to lay out these squares is according to<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/209354685/crochet-stocking-pattern-granny-hexagon?ref=shop_home_active_1" target="_blank"> this pattern</a> </span></span><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 12.8px;">at holidayimaginations.etsy.com. But, it wouldn't be fair or ethical for me to copy those layout instructions here on my own blog now, would it? So, I'm just going to refer you to that pattern for the layout instructions. The pattern is only $4.75, and it's easy to follow, and in my opinion, well-worth the purchase price.</span></span></i><br />
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
Following the layout in the holiday imaginations pattern, crochet sides together with wrong sides facing and with single crochet, thus making a ridge along the joining.</div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
Beginning at back top of stocking, hdc around top one time. Join and chain 10, joining to make a loop for hanging.</div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">

<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
Weave in ends.</div>
